The cotton price is 15 years old and myth is shattered. The cotton price may fall in October.

The recent surge in both international and domestic cotton prices has reached unprecedented levels, setting new records. In an interview, the author discovered that downstream industries such as cotton yarns and fabrics have been significantly impacted. As prices continue to rise, the cost of home textiles and clothing has also increased subtly. Some manufacturing companies are even considering breaking contracts to manage rising costs, while export firms are forced to make additional advance payments just to secure orders. Industry experts suggest that there is very limited room for a decline in cotton prices this year. Cotton prices have hit a 15-year high. “This kind of sharp increase hasn’t been seen in 15 years,” said Mr. Jiang, sales manager at Xiyingmen Group. He explained that last August, cotton was priced at 10,000 yuan per ton, but now it has climbed to 17,000 yuan per ton — a 70% increase. Meanwhile, textile prices have risen by about 20%. By analyzing the domestic cotton **K chart, the author observed a significant upward trend since August. Particularly in the four days leading up to the Mid-Autumn Festival, cotton prices surged by 20%. After the festival, the price of domestic cotton reached a peak of 22,200 yuan per ton on September 28. According to the City Textile and Apparel Association, domestic cotton prices have now reached their highest level in 15 years. Additionally, New York cotton also hit a 15-year high in September. With cotton prices soaring, the impact on downstream industries is becoming increasingly evident. At a brand store in Taidong Liqun, a salesperson shared that due to the rising cost of cotton yarn, cotton products have become more expensive. “For example, a product that sold for 500 yuan last year now costs 600 yuan. The price increase is directly due to higher production costs.” At Qianchuan Department Store, salesperson Ms. Zhu mentioned that pure cotton printed fabric has gone up by 4 yuan per meter compared to last year. “We’re barely making any profit anymore.” Another salesperson, Ms. Fan, added, “In May and June this year, we could get high-pile fabric for 18 yuan per meter from Shanghai, but now it’s up to 23 yuan just to get the goods.”
