Textile industry 2012 faces great challenges but advantages still exist

Editor's Note: The various risks faced by the operation of the textile industry have increased significantly compared with previous years, and the growth rate of benefits has declined. The scale of small and medium-sized micro-enterprises operating below the scale encountered great difficulties, but the textile industry has an integrated competitive advantage formed by a mature and complete industrial system. Compared with the Southeast Asian countries with a single product structure, there is still a clear international competitive advantage in terms of variety, quality and market share.

Fluctuations in raw material prices, soaring production costs, and fierce competition in the international market... This series of factors is superimposed, making the textile industry, which is characterized by its labor-intensive and high export ratio, face considerable challenges in 2012.

In 2012, can China's textile industry break through? Can textile enterprises develop healthily? On the 10th, the seventh annual meeting of China Textile Round Table Forum was held in Beijing. Experts and scholars from the fields of textile and finance made suggestions and suggestions on this topic.

“The various risks faced by the operation of the industry have increased significantly compared with previous years, and the growth rate of benefits has been declining. Operation of small and medium-sized micro enterprises below the scale has encountered great difficulties,” said Wang Tiankai, president of the China National Textile and Apparel Council.

In the past year, despite the structural adjustments and industrial upgrading of the textile industry, the growth of various indicators of the industry was normal and the operating situation was generally stable. However, raw material prices fluctuated sharply, electricity consumption was tight, wage costs rose, and external demand was insufficient. Production increased. The rapid downward trend showed that the growth of the middle and lower reaches of the product decelerated even more.

The data shows that compared with the end of the first quarter of 2011, the growth rate of the output value of enterprises above designated size decreased by 4.1 percentage points from January to November 2011. The Federation of Textile Industry survey data of 82 key textile industry clusters in the country showed that the output value of small-scale enterprises in the clustered area increased by only 0.3% year-on-year from January to October 2011, a 9.1 percentage point drop from the first quarter of 2011.

“Especially the large fluctuations in raw materials. Take cotton prices as an example. In August 2011, the price point fell by more than 60% from the high in March.” Zhao Boya, chairman of China Textile Group, said that the large fluctuation in cotton prices not only caused cotton spinning The sluggish production and sales of enterprises, the potential loss of inventory and profitability, and the negative effects of transmission along the industrial chain have affected the normal order production and market confidence of upstream and downstream companies.

At the same time, export growth continued to decline. Excluding price factors, the number of textile and apparel exports from January to November 2011 increased by only 0.5% year-on-year, of which the number of garment exports only increased by 0.1%. “It shows that export orders have shifted to a large number of low-cost peripheral countries. The demand for international market terminals is not optimistic,” Wang Tiankai said. According to the survey conducted by the China National Textile and Apparel Council, currently about 15% of processing small enterprises in the eastern part of the cluster area are in the state of suspension of production and semi-production.

"It is difficult to fundamentally solve the problem of difficult financing for textile companies. The risk of corporate capital chain still needs high attention." Wang Tiankai said.

Experts in the industry believe that the internal and external environment facing China's textile industry is still very complicated in 2012, and the industry development situation has tightened, especially in the first half of the year. It is expected that the growth in international market demand will remain weak, and the lack of demand, competitive pressures, and trade frictions faced by export companies will become more prominent.

Nevertheless, many experts and scholars still believe that the advantages of China's textile industry in the international competition still exist. “The basic attributes of textiles and clothing as a necessities of life determine that there will be no significant contraction in domestic and foreign market demand, and domestic demand will become the primary support for the development of the textile industry.” Zhao Boya said.

Wang Tiankai also stated that although the competition in the international market has become fiercer, China’s textile industry has an integrated competitive advantage formed by a mature and complete industrial system. Compared with the current Southeast Asian countries with a relatively single product structure, the textile industry is still in terms of variety, quality and market share. There is a clear international competitive advantage. At the same time, the market forcing mechanism formed by the tight external environment has brought about a new round of industry reshuffling and promoted enterprises to accelerate adjustment and improvement.

China Textile Association expects that the production and sales of China's textile industry will continue to grow in 2012, and the major operating indicators of enterprises above designated size are expected to maintain double-digit growth, but the growth rate will slow down from the previous year. It is expected that the decline in the growth rate of industry exports and benefits will be more pronounced, and the difficulties faced by small and medium-sized and processing enterprises below the scale will become more prominent.

To this end, China Textile Federation stated that it will strengthen the investigation and study of the operation of export processing enterprises in small and medium-sized micro enterprises and coastal areas, and promptly report to the relevant government departments their operational status and policy appeals, and further promote the financial support of the relevant state-owned small and medium-sized enterprises. And the implementation of structural tax reduction policies. At the same time, it will also strengthen self-discipline in the industry, standardize market order and trade behavior, prevent excessive competition, correctly guide enterprises to improve their internal strengths, strive to develop new products, new channels and new markets, and better promote the sustained and healthy development of the textile industry.
